The Chef’s Directory is completely free to use and unique. It is part magazine, part directory, part search engine. As a whole it is a hub where chefs, and every other connected part of the hospitality industry, can come to learn, discover, watch, search and meet. Run by a team of journalists with unparalleled industry experience The Chef’s Directory was founded in 2010 by ex-chef and restaurant journalist Chandos Elletson. However, the idea is much older, stemming from an initial idea in 1998 for a book of the same name which chefs could use to discover information about kitchens they wanted to work in. 

So, what’s in it for chefs? 

Profiles

The Chef’s Directory is the only site on the internet where you can search for an individual chef and find important details about them such as brigade numbers, suppliers they use, what jobs they have available and where they worked in the past.

All this information is searchable meaning that profiles appear in searches. This has very serious business implications. As the directory expands and opens up new opportunities chefs will be able to create folders of material and recipes that other users can pay to access.

Jobs

All chefs jobs, in fact all jobs full stop, are free to post on The Chef’s Directory. So, if you are a chef and you have a job you need to fill just go to the jobs page and click the buttons. You’ll be done in no time. 

Jobs are linked to profiles so anyone looking for you or your restaurant can see what jobs are available as well your profile being linked to the job on the job page - so long as you are the one who posted it.

Restaurants and Hotels

It’s not just chefs who can create a listing but restaurants, hotels, caterers, suppliers and, indeed, anything or anybody connected to hospitality.

So, if you are the chef at a restaurant which is listed then your name as chef will appear on the page with a link to your profile.

What’s in it for suppliers

In short, exactly the same as for chefs. All suppliers can list themselves for free. All profiles are searchable meaning that any chef hunting for a supplier can find you easily.

About Registration

The Chef’s Directory was founded on the principle that the information it contained was real and true. For that reason, for the time being, the team here updates all profiles personally to make sure that the details and forms are created properly from the start.  Later, as an existing profile you will be sent a password to allow you to access your profile and change the information and upload new material.

We do not allow psuedonyms or twitter names and before we will allow a profile to go live we have to check that it is real. 

All this means that the directory has integrity and is a reliable source of information. Other chef sites do not police, or even allow their profiles to be searched, making The Chef’s Directory the ultimate chefs site.
